PPI checker for image printing
Choose an image and a target paper size to calculate effective PPI from its real pixels; the image is read locally and never uploaded.
Check your own imageA DPI value stored in a file can be misleading because it may not reflect the size you plan to print. Effective PPI compares the actual image pixels with the selected physical dimensions.
Use the checker before ordering a print to catch low resolution, aspect-ratio mismatch, unexpected cropping, or missing bleed.
Upload the original image
Use the largest original available instead of a social-media copy, screenshot, or compressed messaging attachment. The checker reads only the image dimensions in your browser.
No image file is sent to Printwise. Remove the preview at any time or choose a different file to compare.
Choose the intended print
Select the paper size and fit mode you actually plan to order. Effective PPI changes whenever the physical size changes; swap the image pixel width and height first when checking a landscape print.
If the image and paper ratios differ, compare fill-and-crop with show-the-whole-image before accepting the result.
Act on the quality result
A recommended result meets the selected PPI target. A usable result deserves a proof, while a low result usually means choosing a smaller print or a better source image.
Do not create false detail by changing only the DPI tag. If upscaling is necessary, inspect texture, edges, and faces at 100% before printing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check the PPI of an image for printing?
Divide image pixels by the final print dimensions in inches, or upload the image here and choose the intended paper size.
Will my image be uploaded?
No. Image dimensions and previews are processed locally in your browser.
What should I do if the PPI is too low?
Use a smaller print, find a higher-resolution original, or order a proof before committing to the full print.
